Welcome to the Frontier
Frontier: “the extreme limit of settled land beyond which lies wilderness”
–Oxford Dictionary
Why “Cold Frontier”? Simply put, our name is a reflection of our origins and our philosophy.
First, it’s personal. Our roots are in Alaska. Our values, philosophy, and culture have all been shaped by life on the Last Frontier, with its wild, rugged beauty, deep-freeze winters, and seemingly endless summer sun. The concept of the Frontier is near and dear to us. It’s a living part of us.
What is the philosophical significance of the Frontier? It’s a metaphor for the struggle every civilized human being faces in life: the fight for survival, freedom, and community, pitted against the forces of chaos. The Frontier is the ragged edge of civilization, where comfort is often traded for freedom, and loneliness can be the price we pay for our principles. It takes courage and character to thrive on the Frontier, and it takes quick thinking and skill.
Every human is born with a battle to be fought in a world where evil has no borders. We can face violence and death at home, at work, or in our communities, and we don’t get to choose when or how the chaos will arrive… but we can prepare ourselves, so that when the storm comes, we’ll be ready.
Civilized men and women also face dangers from within: the pitfalls of our innate barbaric impulses. The battle is not merely one for survival; it is a fight to keep chaos from claiming who we are. Long winter evenings provided many early settlers with time for reading and reflection, and we enjoy the seasoned wit, humor, and wisdom of America’s Frontier sages. We at Cold Frontier are passionate, not just about training protectors to confront violence, but in fostering a culture of continuous self-improvement through discipline, study, and acts of service. Our goal is to model what we teach, to lead by example as protectors and students of the pillars of civilization: history, philosophy, and theology, as well as the art of protection.
Finally, the Frontier represents a refreshing view of community. Men and women living on the fringes of the wilderness are not islands; they depend on one another for identity, survival, and sometimes, sanity. We at Cold Frontier invite you to join our “outpost” of protectors with a vision driven by common values: personal development, family, and the community… all while standing guard on the ragged edge of civilization.
