Bear Defense: Awareness, Avoidance, and Firepower
This six-hour class is designed to give students the tools they need to stay safe in bear country by understanding bear behavior, using proven techniques to avoid bear confrontations, and practicing basic proficiency with heavy-caliber firearms as a last resort.
The classroom portion of this class will be taught by a wildlife biologist with years of experience dealing with bears in Alaska. He will help students better understand bears so that they can avoid mistakes that could lead to unnecessary confrontations.
Our CFTT instructors, who have experience hunting and defending themselves from bears using firearms, will lead a hands-on session on the range learning to handle the high-powered weapons needed to deal with angry bears when avoidance and deterrence aren’t enough. They will offer demonstrations of rapid, close range engagement with high-powered rifles, shotguns, and handguns, followed by a practical challenge for students using their own defensive weapons of choice.
As a final test, students will be locked in a cage with a real Alaskan grizzly bear to demonstrate their ability to use their fighting skills to survive hand to hand combat with one of nature’s most devastating predators. No other defensive training company offers bear training this intense. Wait, sorry, our lawyer says we can’t do that last part. ☹ Sorry.
