Skills are not enough. It is not enough to be a superior shot, to have great hand-to-hand combat skills, or even to have the verbal de-escalation skills necessary to avoid violent conflict. A master craftsman knows the tools in his toolbox, and he knows when to use each of them. Choosing the wrong tool for the situation or freezing under pressure can have devastating consequences.
For citizen-protectors who are prepared to stand against violence, understanding how to interact with volatile and often complicated situations is essential. We need not only to train to be skilled with our words, our hands, and our defensive tools, but also with our minds. Putting critical skills together with critical thinking, learning the ins and outs of tactics in a wide range of situations, is the lesson of a lifetime of experiences. It has been said that the body cannot go where the mind has never been. Tactical development requires training grounded in experiences that emulate the speed, shock, and intensity of real-world confrontations.
CFTT’s Reality-Based Training Events present students with a chance to develop their critical decision-making skills under the simulated stress of real-world violent encounters. Sessions will feature immersive scenario-based training in a variety of formats that presents students with challenges based on realistic encounters. Students will have the opportunity to pit themselves against the stress of complex real-world problems in a controlled environment, with the benefit of oversight, feedback, and reflection that will help them adapt to the stress of confrontation and build their confidence to take appropriate, decisive action when needed.
